K.O.F.Y (3 AM Devices, NIGERIA/SERBIA)

K.O.F.Y is Winston Kofy Ahman, music producer and "artist of the spoken word", combining hip hop, dub and world sounds with spoken word poetry, which is deeply rooted in his Nigerian-Jamaican heritage. Ahman started as a crack dealer in his hometown Lagos, Nigeria, in the late 70s. He soon got involved in politics, and for engaging in various activities against the rule of General Obasanjo, he reportedly spent a total of seven years in prison. In 2001, he got involved in music in Basel, Switzerland, by making beats on his laptop and improvising a set of self-centered post-political lyrics.

His first album, titled "Return of the Secretary General EP" was recorded in just seven days, tracing its very own, 'outernational' style. K.O.F.Y has recently moved to Belgrade, Serbia, where he is currently residing, hoping to deliver his "ghoulish vocal tracks with minimalistic dubstep beats" to numerous former East Bloc audiences. The technological subversion of the rulers named in his tracks plays well among the former Yugoslav territories that K.O.F.Y. now calls home, which have endured their own stream of dictators and corrupt regimes.
